A Tradition of Experience
Officially founded in 1954 by Dr. Bliss H. Crandall, DHI Computing Service, Inc., began as a family organization run out of the basement of the Crandall home. Today, DHI is a thriving corporation with
three divisions, over 150 employees, and a clientele ranging from agribusiness to finance.
DHI got its start at Utah State University in 1950. Dr. Crandall, then the Director of the Statistical Laboratory, in collaboration with Lyman H. Rich, Utah State Extension Dairyman, pioneered the first IBM punched card system for DHIA records. In 1952, dairy herds within the state of Utah transferred to this system. Later, surrounding states began enrolling their herds. Because of scheduling problems and competition for university facilities the university discontinued their support of the system. So, Dr. Crandall moved the computing operation off-campus, where it became DHI Computing Service. The Crandall family soon moved to Provo, Utah and brought DHI with them.
A Legacy of Innovation
Through the years, DHI expanded their expertise and services. Electronic data processing offered better and faster ways to meet the needs of the dairy industry. DHI soon became a leader in innovative computer techniques. The need for software to support improved hardware led to DHI's development of special utility and telecommunications software that is still unique in the computer industry.
IBM Business Partner
IBM Business Partner Since its beginning, DHI has had a strong association with IBM. Each new IBM hardware development brought a new software application form DHI. DHI was selected by IBM to be an Industry Remarketer in all of the major industries we serve. IBM also selected DHI as a test site/pre-release site for several products, including the IBM PC/370 and the IBM 9370 mainframe. In 1991, IBM named DHI as IBM's Business Partner of the Year.

One of the Largest DRPCs Today, DHI is one of the largest dairy records processing centers in the world, serving producers from New York to Hawaii and from Wisconsin to Mexico. In addition, DHI has developed a broad and diversified customer base.
